I have been spinning up the Moonlight, and getting some good results. I have one small skein of singles, and the second one is coming along so I can ply them together.Well, I say small, but it’s big enough to impress me.
There’s a dozen ways it could be a yoke embellishment on a sweater, from the whole yoke to embroidery after the sweater is finished. Pay no attention to the Noro with which I tied the skein. I was grabbing what was to hand and not thinking at all about photo ops.
I’ll have to read up on finishing. Wash (and dry) to set the twist, yes, but the details elude me. The practice I will get spinning up these club fibers will fix it in my head.
edited to add: I just saw news from Moonwood Farm on Ravelry, so I am passing it on here. Moonwood Farm is raising money to treat a sick alpaca – an expensive undertaking as they are not sure why she is sick. Read the full story here, and buy a bookmark at etsy to enter the prize drawing. second edit: The drawing is over, the alpaca didn’t survive the illness. She lives on in her beautiful offspring. Consult the full story link above for more information.
So last week my hard drive was failing, and when reported to my guru, my computer was whisked away and replaced. I can’t complain at such a fast replacement, and what a great new computer! I went from the oldest/slowest hardware in the house to the newest/fastest. The old computer was nine years old, so trust me, it didn’t take much for improvement.
The only truly unfortunate consequence (that I know about so far!!) was losing my iTunes subscriptions. For whatever reason, they didn’t show up after reloading iTunes, and I had so many I couldn’t remember them all. I did my best, then found several I had missed here on the sidebar. So, more sidebar! Which ought to have been done before, but wasn’t.
Also let me point you to a new fibery podcast, Fiber Beat. Hoxton Handmade found and shared it in Episode 29 of Electric Sheep. Like Electric Sheep, Fiber Beat is urbane and funny. WonderMike begins at Sock Summit 2009, interviewing Amy Detjen, Meg Swanson, and Charlene Schurch. (I learned something from all of them, but apparently those rumors about the Sock Camps aren’t true.) Both are in the sidebar on the right.
It’s called “Bollywood” and I love it! Here it is next to the Moonlight fiber:
Thank you, Moonwood Farm!
The Moonwood Farm etsy shop is back up and running, and will have Bollywood fiber ready to ship at the end of the month – and are taking orders now.
